Veneer Chandelier*

*Furniture Design | 24 three-ply bent lamination modules, lap and contact joined.

This project aimed to combine the natural strengths of bent plywood veneer, with the abilities to join and attach each module to establish an overall form. This form is based off of the geometry of an octahedron; somewhere between the form language of a cube and a pyramid.

Using three layers of thin maple wood veneer, this project was made up of 24 individual components. When glueing the final pieces together, the natural flexibility found in wood allowed for a complete joinery; if the wood wasn’t as flexible, the geometry wouldn’t have aligned as it did.
