Gentrification Reclamation {Market House}

A graphic guide to addressing unmarked or gentrified spaces; designed to adapt to any landmark or space.

The Market House series is meant to establish an understanding that has gone unmarked at this Providence historical site. It aims to put the cultural and historical references into newer terms through gentrification. The decades of Slave Trading that took place at this sight still go unmarked and undisclosed, paired with the contemporary acts of wealth redistribution and housing displacement in the city today. Providence represents a place with severe racial divides that have continued to materialize in various ways since the Market House Slave Trade.

This set of posters is also meant to be modularly applicable and repurposable; through an open-source collection of icons, identity, messaging, and colors, other designers and activists can use these assets to reproduce the works’ core message.
